Mender Client 5.0.x

Hi team,

Just wanting to check if the 5.0.x line is considered “production-ready” given its default preference is set to “-1”?

As an aside, I’ve tried to set PREFERRED_VERSION_mender = “5.%” but for some reason it keeps choosing 5.0.0 - if I set PREFERRED_VERSION_mender = “5.0.1” then it works fine.

Yup, 5.x is definitely production ready. The numeric bump 4 → 5 is just due to semantic versioning as there was a breaking change. The following Update Modules are not included anymore:

• deb
• docker
• rpm
• script
  So if you require one of these, they are now in GitHub - mendersoftware/mender-update-modules: Community-supported Update Modules for the Mender client.

Other than that, the 5.x series is literally just the continuation of 4.x, and on the same level of quality.

The reason for it being downprioritized in the meta layer is just semantic versioning policy again to not introduce a breaking change without active “acknowledgement” from the user while staying on a Yocto release.
