Can I install the Mender client and set up the device in a Windows OS Machine? If yes, can anyone share the guide or steps to download and set up it?

Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately, the answer is a clear “no” so far. The Mender Client does not support the Windows OS platform, nor am I aware of any alternative client which has support for it.
Technically it is possible to create an alternative client which does, but nobody has taken on this task so far.

Thank you for your reply. Is it possible to run it in WSL on Windows, or is that also not an option?

You can probably run the Mender Client in WSL, but it won’t provide a lot of value:

  • it cannot manage the Windows installation
  • No A/B updates, neither the outer Windows nor the Hyper-V underneath WSL have support for it
  • whatever WSL does is jailed in the VM.

So if the question is “can I run the Mender Client in WSL”, then “yes”. If the question is “can I use the Mender Client in WSL to do something useful, especially concerning Windows”, then the answer is “no”.
