# Update over RS-485 serial link?

I am interested in using Mender to update a Yocto-based system running on a custom Zynq board. The only connection the board will have in the field is a RS-485 serial connection.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to use Mender to update such as system?

One option would be to copy the mender file via the serial port to the target device and then use the mender-client in stand-alone mode to apply the update.

I haven’t tried rs485 but a bit of googling should reveal multiple ways to do the file transfer depending on the software you have at your disposal
