Hi,

We are switching from our VPN to mender Terminal and port forward but we are experiencing some latency issues.
We use hosted Mender

- Mender terminal is quite slow even with a LAN network (not cellular).
- Port forwarding is used to forward VNC Viewer (RDP). The video feed on a LAN network (not cellular) is really slow even with a limited VNC quality stream

Is there some settings that we could tweak in order to reduce latencies ? If it’s slow on our office network I might be unusable in the fields.

Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Hello @Austriker,

Can you tell us a little bit more about your environment? On my tests the connection is fast enough, but I would like to be able to reproduce your scenario.

Regards,
Luis

Hi @lramirez

Here is our environment:

- Intel NUC64 device with touch screen
- Yocto Dunfell
- Usually runs through a 4G connection but for testing purposes we used the our office network.
- We run VNC server on the device

We also experience a lot of connection problems with mender-cli by the way: ["Bad Handshake" with mender-cli - #9 by Austriker](https://hub.mender.io/t/bad-handshake-with-mender-cli/4455/9) . The connection is better through the web UI on hosted mender but we can’t port forward.

Produce the scenario for port forwarding

- port forward the VNC port
- With your VNC client lower the quality
- Try to look an animation and see if it’s close to fluid

Regards,

Hi @Iramirez,

We have upgraded:

- PREFERRED\_VERSION\_pn-mender-client = “3.2.1”
- PREFERRED\_VERSION\_pn-mender-connect = “2.0.1”
- PREFERRED\_VERSION\_pn-mender-artifact = “3.7.0”
- PREFERRED\_VERSION\_pn-mender-artifact-native = “3.7.0”

But we still have the same results. What are the next steps ?

Cheers
