# Mender Device ID

Hi @tmrskos,

I would recommend instead that you change the [mender-device-identity script](https://docs.mender.io/client-configuration/identity) to output your custom ID such as a UUID. This script produces the key-value pairs that are then hashed by the server to generate the ID. But I don’t think you want to rely on the hashed output format not changing.
