# How to connect new device setup in mender server

Hi Mender Community,
I went through the i.MX8M Mini Document with mender integrated. My question is if we want to test that , then what should I select in the Dashboard , while I connect a device? It is showing only two options RPI and virtual machine.

Hi @Kunal , assuming you meant this link as the mini document, [DART-MX8M : NXP i.MX8M](https://hub.mender.io/t/dart-mx8m-nxp-i-mx8m/1470), you shouldn’t need to do anything to connect it. That link uses the mender-convert utility which sets up your target image to connect automatically, assuming you have the rootfs\_overlay setup properly. It will show up in the “Pending” tab under “Devices”.
The link on the dashboard to connect a device is for quick onboarding and testing with stock OS images and should not be used with mender-convert.

I was going through i.MX8M Mini EVK document, [i.MX 8M Mini Evaluation Kit](https://hub.mender.io/t/nxp-i-mx-8m-mini-evaluation-kit/659/1).
What should I select in this case in the dashboard?

That should be preconfigured to connect with no need to do anything on the dashboard other than go to the Pending devices tab and admit the device.
See the subsection " Configure Mender server URL (optional)" for details on how to make sure it’s configured properly.
