# Bug report: deploying unsigned / not properly signed artifacts

this is a minor bug report. Feel free to delete it as you register it in the tracker.

I configured Mender client to verify artifact signature.

When I try to deploy an unsigned artifact, I expect the deployment to fail.

Instead, what happens is the device continuously tries to retreive artifact forever, deployment stays in ‘in progress’ on web panel forever.  
Plus, the progress bar in the web panel showed “69%” instantly after the device requested the artifact and stays in this state forever.

indeed, the deployment fails after multiple attempts.
